Salu Hall

aged beef
Today I went into the center area of Stockholm and went to an indoor market called Salu Hall.  Salu Hall is a good-sized gourmet market inside a high-ceilinged warehouse looking room with countless food counters.  They sell everything from fish so fresh their practically jumping at you to melt-in-your-mouth chocolate truffles.  Customers can take away dinner in to go boxes neatly lined up inside the cases or they can eat there as each stall has a place to sit down to have a nice dinner.  It is not a cheap market, but well worth the price.   Besides Swedish fare, the market had a Norwegian counter, a sushi counter (of course) and even a Lebanese counter.   The food looked like fare a mother or grandmother would make for a family dinner, very traditional food- perfect to make my point about the mother’s table with.  We got some truffles (the saffron truffles were my favorite!) and we at a bit of Lebanese (don’t ask why we didn’t eat Swedish) hummus and stuffed grape leaves.  Salu Hall was packed even though it was only 3:30 in the afternoon, people eating and drinking wine at the tables while others were haggling with the butchers and counter help getting dinner to take home.  It was a fun experience and I will definitely go back to taste some more of the food next time!
